Sharps Shootout: A Bloodborne Pathogens Training Game
A used needle has to get from the exam room to a sharps container, and the clinic is busy. Hop across the lanes without getting stuck. Every delivery teaches a rule from OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens Standard.
Hop with the arrow keys or W, A, S, D. Press Space to start. Get the needle into an open sharps container. On a phone, use the buttons.
Turn your phone sideways for a bigger game.
What the game teaches
The Rule Behind Every Point
- Contaminated sharps go right away into a container that is closable, puncture resistant, leakproof on the sides and bottom, and labeled or color-coded (29 CFR 1910.1030(d)(4)(iii)(A)).
- Contaminated needles are not bent, recapped or removed, except in the narrow cases the standard allows, and shearing or breaking them is prohibited (29 CFR 1910.1030(d)(2)(vii)).
- Employees with occupational exposure must be offered the hepatitis B vaccine at no cost, within 10 working days of starting the job (29 CFR 1910.1030(f)).
